Sunday, January 29, 2012 3:00 pm Thayer Academy Center for the Arts 745 Washington St., Braintree, MA
Rodgers & Hammerstein (arr. Bennett) Suite from The Sound of Music
Williams selections from Star Wars Suite
Tchaikovsky selections from The Nutcracker
Grieg selections from Peer Gynt Suite No. 1
instrumental showcase and musical activity for children to follow immediately after the concert
The ASO's fun, educational program for all ages will look at the relationship between sights and sounds. What do the composers, performers and audiences see when they listen? Do we all see the same things? How can we use our images to have even better musical experience?
Highlighting the performance will be the display of paintings on a large screen on stage by Thayer Academy art students as the orchestra performs the music that inspired those art works. Also, ballerina Alexandra Storch who danced in recent production of Boston Ballet's "The Nutcracker" will perform on stage.
After the performance, meet the musicians and hear their instruments up close during a post-concert instrument showcase, bustling with music centered activities.
